having unleashed the beast that is his debut lp columbusing, thatmanmonkz grants a couple more heavyweight producers permission to get busy with the sonic manglers for remixes of turn it out and boogie down. first up, one of the vocalist contributors to the lp dave aju (known for his releases on circus company) takes on his own track turn it out, transforming the original from a backyard bbq summer jam into some kind of mutant electro p-funk meets broken- beat fusion. a filtered bass line and bare bones 808 kicks are what this track is all about forming the perfect rhythmic union with the vocal.

there is significantly more than a scintilla of exuberance on cosmin trg’s first 2016 venture on his own fizic imprint. number four in the series further explores the dense textures present on last year siiiep, but largely dispenses with the ennui in favour of a different discourse. oblic offers a brisk groove that ebbs and flows among graphite-thin layers of percussion and sonic debris. the recurring dust sample amplifies the vigorous rhythmic attributes of the track, rendering it withprime dance floor capabilities. serpenti takes distant sparkles of mutant chimes, wraps them around the relentless pulse of thudding kick drum and soaks everything in static. granules and grit are extracted from circuitry with a focus on razor sharp sound system efficiency. produced by cosmin trg, transformed by matt colton at alchemy mastering, with original artwork from cosmin himself.

here we have the fourth and last reference of the “moog your body” series, in which, as always, we have 4 tracks from 4 different artists. for this release we team up with cream soda aka locked club, moscow based duo, that offers a particular vision of acid house with his track “one more night stand”, mixing low-fi jacking and hip-house in a record that will be the artists first vinyl giveaway. the next cut is 6tma’s, our franchise-man. his new mutant rave composition, “joan manuel serato”, more focused towards breaks and uk hardcore, is going to destroy the dance floor again.

dark entries digs deeper in to the archives of severed heads, one of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the australian post-punk independent music scene. they began in sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of ‘industrial’ noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. as the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. in 1986 the band released the 12” single “petrol” on nettwerk records. we’ve decided to shed light on the evolution of “petrol” with this ep showcasing four earlier incarnations of what became an instant synth pop classic.

where to now? records are proud to present beatrice dillons follow up release to the widely well received * blues dances*. this three track 12 inch sees beatrice step things up a gear in terms of intricacy, experimenting wildly to add to her already astute palette of timbre and rhythm. face a leads the record with the unmistakable skronk of saxophone cutting and jamming over the skeletal pulse of beatrices signature dubbed out techno landscape. initially the inclusion of saxophone acts as an aural abstraction or diversion to extract a little freedom from the pumping cavern of dark dub techno atmosphere punctuated with the mechanical juddering saw-bass, but as the piece develops and we become deep into the groove the inclusion of wild sax snorts trips us up and become the focus itself as new levels of complex melodic and rhythmic detail become apparent within this otherwise structurally obedient space. taking its cues from rabih beaini, miles davis * big fun* era, dresvn and keith hudson, undoubtably face a is a compelling, complex trip… heads down but arms flailing. face b continues the theme but takes the listener far deeper into the cavern. here the concern is more the effects of space within song, a moment where beatrice allows herself to move away from the floor to find a little more room for playful experimentation. the saxophone is further treated with a plethora of effects to compliment the array of dub signals that scatter and skip around the basin. the record closes with sonnier (walk in the light) which strangely somehow manages to feel jazzier in its components, even in comparison to a pair of tracks riffing on a manipulated free-jazz sax part. it sounds strangely unsure of its world, adding to this whole loosely slung, loping feel which somehow fits amongst the stern, brooding, and efficient synth play. beatrice masterfully manages to create a piece here that grows in intensity without ever increasing in pace or texture, every drop is intended to stir the listener a little more than the last. theres a sense throughout all the pieces of having rhythm imposed or even inflicted upon the listener but this is certainly not a conflict of ideas… there is optimism, harmony and above all - wild groove nestled within beatrices world of mutant shuffle.

fresh from contributing to the guests of reality compilation along with stilleben label mates luke eargoggle, kan3da and obergman, rutherford shows his diversity as a producer with heads down cuts sitting alongside beatless atmospheric excursions with a 4 track ep for brokntoys. a regular fixture on stilleben, rutherford has also released on kondi and unknown to the unknown. along with lukas pettersson he also explores the depths of mutant disco as monkeyshop. limited to 180 hand stamped copies complete with individual screen printed artwork unique to each copy.

californian modular synthesizer and audio equipment producter tiptop audio is proud to introduce a new project for 2015: tiptop audio records. in the recent years musical productions have seen a remarkable return to the use of hardware through analog synthesizers and digital control interfaces. this trend has proven so strong that it prompted a rebirth of modular synths in a new format (eurorack). tiptop audio has made a name producing sophisticated but easy to use modules, designed to form a complete system that is especially effective for dance-oriented productions and live sets. tiptop audio records selected for its first issue some of the most groundbreaking artists using such systems, to present a range of artists who, through their tracks, explore the landscape of dance music in a very fresh perspective. these are the artists who inspire the tiptop team to make more innovative devices, which in turn make new music (a nice feedback loop).

the maghreban is new to house music, and doesnt really listen to house music, which isnt necessarily a bad thing. he has worked extensively in other genres under other names. looking at house from these sideways perspectives perhaps gives him an interesting angle on it. this second release sees the maghreban expand his sonic palette somewhat, taking in some african sounds but also continuing along the vintage theme of his first 12 inch. radio play from benji b (bbcr1), thristian (nts), support from ben ufo (rinse/hessle), brian not brian (going good/kristina records), gatto fritto (international feel), sasa (in flagranti, nts), leri ahel (mutant disco).

after one year since the first release night visions, the nightdrivers team is back for another race on their own imprint with a bunch of fresh, obscure and rolling bangers named nightlights: the record starts with the mutant and spastic tech funk of the epic bright lights, a totally sweat walled basement track where a dirty, crispy and crunchy disco break combines with an edgy, syncopated 909 driving beat while a cheeky melody of party-bells going slightly out of tune runs on the top of it.

stockholms dungeon acid returns with one of the strangest, nastiest acid records to date.carnal knowledge is caveman techno, one chord hammered with hypnotic precision, a two-note acid line adding an air of polyrhythmic mystery. the heavily processed sounds of copulation comprise the bulk of the atmosphere, the whole thing feeling like an alien, updated version of lil louiss immortal french kiss. the instrumental version is a slightly swingin’ variation on the same theme. dungeon acid principal jean-louis huhta is known for editing the sweetest parts from his hardware enduro-jams. the bonus beats title for b2 is a bit of a misnomer in fact, these are the sounds of mutant, futuristic lovemaking in all their glory, perfect for sexing up otherwise sterile dance music. get some!

finally. a taster of what we have been waiting for a long time, four tracks from motorcycle boys upcoming album - squalo. with a quad of dancefloor ready tracks at your disposal this 12 has something for everyone. need to kick your disco-dance party into touch? no problemo! mutant house and dischord disco sit alongside girl friendly drum workouts and emo disco. its disco, but not as we know it. look out for squalo in the later part of this year, but dont miss your chance to get in on the action early. this 12 is not to be missed. did we say essential?

these hidden hands is the collaborative project of uk stalwart, tommy four seven and alain, the berlin-based producer and mastering engineer at one million mangos. it is fair to say that techno is the main ingredient, served as uncompromisingly as possible. their debut lp showcases the duo’s love for cavernous, echoing drones and visceral, foreboding half-time beats - from the gnarly, distorted frame of *trelesire* to the dystopian, mutant dance of *diesel*, this album has it all and comes warmly recommended for fans of vatican shadow and the whole hospital productions camp.

label boss sasha carassi showcases his constant evolution in this three-track ep and soundsphere kicks things off with unmistakeable, mutating stabs intertwined with haunting background synths. starchild picks up from there with its rubber-band bassline and streamlined electronics, and introduces what can only be described as mutant sci-fi chords. for the closer, mr. carassi has put together the aptly-titled drop of soul in which trademarked synths pave the way for nostalgic arpeggios and dissonant electronics.

the first new crazylegs music of the summer season is a bold slice of motown-fuelled house music from tommy rawson, following up his debut on sweden’s local talk last year. uk garage hero zed bias brings the dread with a dark, broken maddslinky refix on the flip, after recently announcing his imminent retirement from the dj circuit. imami rounds off the package with a booming mutant funk workout, off the back of his debut ep on druid cloak’s apothecary compositions label last november. crazylegs is a young record label birthed in 2012 from a five-year old bristol club party of the same name – founded by jambo and shandy and now run by a small team of like-minded djs and producers – tied together by a love of surprising, spontaneous electronic music and existing to provide a home for the people that create it.

odd frequencies is a brand new label coming straight from paris. this split ep brings two young producers together (the irish man lumigraph and the parisian rising star d.k.) and is the first of a series of releases confronting a local french producer to an international artist. 1 track on each side, 2 mutant bombs pushing the drum machines to their limits, as if steve poindexter was making punk music in 2014. a promising introduction for this label who will edit these hybrid jams on 10 inches vinyls, the unique format for a perfect balance between experimentation and dancefloor expectations.

before birthing his blasted acid house identity bobby draino drummed for various synth-punked groups around vancouver, and some of that scorched earth live energy bleeds through the five primordial bangers comprising his vinyl debut, *brain drain*. tracked live through one channel of a space echo straight to his computer, draino’s mo is overdriven drum machines saturated with gritty fried acid, bass damage, and blown-tone sequencer patterns, fused into a radical and weird debased mutant house. the eps five tracks are the cumulation of two years of demo workshopping, tr-606 and 303 autodidacticism, warehouse party spelunks, etc, all savvy tactics for developing a shredding, progressively singular style, which bd has in spades. one of the most awesomely wrecked and raw silk slabs to date. a west coast wiz worth watching. mastered by eric hanson. edition of 430.

my favorite robot serves up another unique and uncompromising release from pink skull, this time in the form of an exclusive vinyl release, months ahead of its digital companion. energetic analogue forms that are simultaneously playful and moody define the sound of their latest full length huitlacoche.

chicagos beau wanzer known for his work with mutant beat dance and streetwalker makes his debut on l.i.e.s. with his first solo ep.. absolute killer!

first up sees the new methodology track in full on dance floor assault mode - serious break-fuelled techno with rolling drums, off beat funk elements and big stabbing chords moving in and out of fx laden atmospheres at a fairly furious pace. the b side introduces yet another incredibly talented producer from the iridite stable - mike singleton is a regular dj at glasgow s internationally famous monox club as well as being one of the chief tech-heads and all round music know-it-alls at rubadub records. his track here will appeal to anyone who likes to be genuinely shaken up by a track - it s got the lot - cutting edge production techniques, heartfelt melody, intricate and complicated programming, bassline turning and twisting almost inside out, fantastic fx, but most of all >the funk<! methodology round things up with another mutant house/techno hybrid track - all shuffly percussion, filtered samples and a mournful, string laden climax, layered with weird bleep-ing riffs and super-sub bass

first up is dankles *isabigting*. dankle has been steadily making a name for himself over the past couple of years, as part of offmenut records, for his solo production and as one half of phatworld, alongside tich from the squire of gothos. *isabigting* is straight up mutant bassline, with his warped, glass-like bass and hip-hop vocal.

the next release on lo note uk sees the second installment of excursions, lo notes 10 inch series focused on the darker, more experimental sounds in underground electronic music. excursions 002 sees unknown london producer tum hulbruk make his debut with these two dark, stripped back cuts of raw mutant techno. intricate sampling, complex rhythms, and an awareness of space suggest a maturity beyond his years and a producer who has already developed his own unique sound. tough dancefloor beats for the heads.

side a brings us >toxic smoke<, a dance floor killer. its what happens when afrobeat and disco spawn a mutant lovechild. sure to get the floor jumping. no toxic smoke, only vapor!
side b >sequence of spectators< is a tribute to an old french tv show. the theme song was a big inspiration to chris as a child and this song is his twist on it. driving afrobeat-inspired grooves provide the base for powerful horn and key lines. a solid groover.

pianobatacazoo provides us his most powerful set up ever: vibrations and deephouse oriented strokes charged with baroque sensuality, decorating and presenting himself extra sensitive through solid percussion lines that come from uk-funky, counteracting with elegant shines of real instruments. mngc, a more minimal cut built from an explicit mutant bass line that works as the spine that receives new tools through the playing of the tune: dry falterings, bipolar personality that makes his own the mysticism of the original dubstep or the synth motifs connected with the intensity of the deep techno.

butane continues to push his sound well beyond the frontiers of trendy dance music with >we are all cyborgs now<, his latest tour-de-force on his own alphahouse records imprint. apparently not interested in assimilation for the sake of popularity, he rather blazes his own wide-cut path towards artistry with two future-techno cuts rife with pointed commentary on the nature of todays dance music scene. >everybodys talkin< is a mutant hybrid of styles for the nostalgic types. latin percussion and bin-busting bass mingle with an ethereal voice lamenting the passing of the good old days. throw in one utterly twisted xylophone note that might just send a few partygoers over the edge for good, and you have an open air after-hours anthem in the making. >hey hipster< is a not-so-subtle jab at the newjack hipsters of the dance world who seem content to recycle old ideas, as long as they think they look cool doing it. deceptively simple, but carrying a heavy hook, the track features a grooving bassline, speaker busting synth stabs, and a brooding male voice admonishing these party parasites for their shallow ways. listen up kids, this is the sound of the underground. dont be fooled, this kind of music is best heard in big dark clubs where mirrors arent there for checking out your trendy haircut.

the excellent lumberjacks in hell imprint has served up some fine edits in its short lifespan to date, most notably from chicagos mutant beat dancer traxx and the labels latest release turns to two other windy city residents renowned for their collections and skills. rahaan needs little introduction for the disco loving community with essential drops on stillove4music, disco deviance and more, whilst mr sounds runs the excellent bring the heat website. this twelve is all about the a side >rainin bleeding boy< which puts a well loved uk ebm couple through the dub laden beatdown grinder - though djs will get plenty of mileage out of both tracks on the b side with >flip side< some supremely chopped up disco funk and >war i declare< a stomping and heavily filtered bomb.

it is with great honour that in paradisum welcome sometime border community and traum schallplatten artist ricardo tobar into the label for the fourth chapter in our fledgling story. the esoteric/carnaval ep reveals four tracks that further showcase the chilean producers unerring grasp for electronic music that combines moments of introspection with the unshakeable urge to lose yourself in the moment.

jack dixon, a london-based electronic artist draws influences from wolfgang voigt, mutant disco, autechre and tim hecker. quite an array of jumping off points and ones which are clearly evident throughout his intricate productions. his productions sound as much at home on a heaving, sweat-soaked, educated dance floor as they do on headphones in the sleepy urban half-light on the night bus home. from his earliest releases on brownswood, take, and silverback, jack has found love and support from amongst others mary anne hobbs, joy orbison, will saul, sinden and eats everything.

the german based label kitty corner records turns back the wheel and starts a new series of fresh experimental techno music. the opening track hachzem from bristols kanji kinetic comes with storming mutant basslines and rave stabs collide over a thumping techno beat. for battle creek brawl rrritalin and cynthia stern take it back to 92 with pitched up rap vocals over a prodigy style breakbeat hardcore track.spacefaces hands of a lunatik is frenetic and crazy wonky techno, while lukes anger rounds off the ep with the robotic 909 warehouse beats of throwing switches.
